Why do people get depressed ?

As we explained in our other articles too depression is one of the major cause of suicide. Why does people get depressed in the first place ? As I searched there were various cause of leading people to have depression.

Genes

According to research, depression runs in families. Some individuals inherit genes that contribute to it. However, not everyone who has a depressed family member will experience depression themselves. And a lot of people who have no family history nonetheless contract it. Genes play a role in depression, but they are not the primary cause.

Brain Chemistry

Neurotransmitters, also spelled nur-oh-TRANZ-mit-urs, are substances that control mood. These neurotransmitters may be insufficiently produced or ineffectively functioning in depressed individuals. The likelihood of having this neurotransmitter issue may be higher in someone who has depression-related genes.

Stress, Health, and Hormones

Stress, intoxication, drug use, and hormonal shifts are a few examples of factors that might impact mood and brain chemistry.Anger, irritation, or melancholy may also be more likely under certain medical conditions. For instance, some people may experience depression as a result of decreased thyroid hormone levels. These symptoms typically go away once the health condition has been identified and treated by a doctor. The neurotransmitter activity and mood are frequently improved by getting enough sleep and exercising frequently, which helps ward off depression.

Daylight and Seasons

Melatonin and serotonin are two neurotransmitters that are produced in the brain in response to daylight. They support the regulation of mood, energy, and sleep and wake cycles.

In the fall and winter, the body may produce more melatonin and less serotonin due to the shorter days and longer hours of darkness. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a form of depression, may result from this imbalance. People with SAD may feel happier after being exposed to light.

Life Events Depression can occasionally result after the loss of a loved one, a friend, or a pet. It can also be brought on by other traumatic life events, such as a parent's divorce, separation, or remarriage. The ability to manage, maintain optimism, and get help can determine whether difficult life circumstances result in depression.

Family and Social Environment

A bad, demanding, or unhappy family life may cause depression in certain people. It can also result from other high-stress living circumstances, such as poverty, homelessness, or assault. Some people experience feelings of isolation or anxiety when dealing with bullying, harassment, or peer pressure.Even while these kinds of circumstances don't necessarily result in depression, going through them alone or without assistance can make it easier to become depressed.

Reacting to Life Situations

There are many ups and downs in life. Stress, inconveniences, and setbacks do occur (hopefully not too frequently). It matters a lot how we respond to the challenges of life. A person's viewpoint can either assist prevent depression or contribute to it. According to research, having an optimistic mindset can help prevent depression. Even those who are predisposed to it due to genetics, brain chemistry, or environmental factors can still experience it. The inverse is also true: Those who have a tendency to think more negatively may be more susceptible to depression.
