What are the effects of suicide to the community
When someone commits suicide, those closest to the deceased are the most affected: family, friends, coworkers, and classmates. As a result, those who interacted regularly with the person who took their own life will miss their physical presence and typically feel the loss most personally.
However, those folks just represent the first wave, or the initial level of influence. Suicide can influence members of an individual's community, such as members of a faith community, instructors, employees, and other students in a school, or support providers.
Some of these people may experience the impact in the same manner that those closest to the deceased do. In a circumstance when the individual has openly struggled with mental health issues, those who were aware of the struggle would grieve the loss, possibly wondering whether they might have done more.
People who had no personal knowledge of the deceased may also be affected. Such as emergency medical personnel, law enforcement, clergy, and others who respond to and assist the family and community at the time of death or following.
